Bad Larry is one of those dogs you never forget. He’s a partner, a clown, and an athlete all rolled into one blocky-headed, soft-blanket-loving goofball. He’s also a dog who very nearly didn’t make it. Pulled from a high-kill shelter with signs of extreme under-socialization, he had likely never lived in a home before the rescue pulled him, had never been exposed to the world, and had zero basic skills.
After structured, dedicated training, Larry has transformed into a responsive, hilarious, engaging, affectionate, and trainable dog. Make no mistake, he’s still a work in progress, but he is, however, a highly rewarding companion for the right person.
let’s get this special dog the home he deserves.
TRAINING & OBEDIENCE: Where Larry Shines
This dog LOVES TO WORK. If you want a companion to train, work, and grow with—you’ll love Bad Larry. He is:
✅ E-collar trained, on leash
✅ Muzzle trained (comfortable wearing it)
✅ Crate trained (plastic crate recommended; wire crates are a no-go)
✅ Potty trained (signals to go out by sitting at the door)
✅ Neutral in the house when structured
✅ Good for grooming (baths, nail trims— No problem)
✅ Excellent car passenger (quiet in a crate or loose)
He also has solid obedience foundations, including:
🐾 Sit
🐾 Down
🐾 Sit-Stay & Down-Stay
🐾 Bed/place command with duration
🐾 Crate manners (waits calmly at the door for release)
🐾 Door thresholds (waits before exiting)
🐾 Recall (great in fenced yard/backyard)
🐾 Loose-Leash Walking: walks beautifully—with proper handling but needs maintenance to stay that way. Larry finds leash pulling rewarding, or should I rephrase it to towing humans…so if you allow it… he will regress.
🐾 Treadmill trained! (He’ll even stand on it waiting for his session)
Larry is also learning to work for toy rewards and is incredibly food motivated—he’ll work hard for basic kibble, making him a dream to train in the right hands.
THE CHALLENGES: WHAT HE NEEDS FROM YOU
Larry has made massive strides, but he is still a work in progress. Here’s what potential adopters must know:
He should not live with other dogs. He is dog-selective and may escalate if another dog shows conflict or tension. He may be able to coexist around dogs, but management is required, and it is not failproof. He should not intentionally greet dogs in public or go to dog parks.
He cannot live with young children. His play style is intense—jumping, slamming, and occasionally mouthy when overstimulated. He plays like a baby rhino x kangaroo mix. He’s super fun and it’s not malicious, but it’s not safe for small kids.
He needs someone who can manage high arousal. Pushing him away or rough housing ramps him up. He requires redirection and consistent structure.
He currently walks well on leash—but has a history of intense leash pulling. If allowed, he will regress quickly. He needs an owner who will hold him accountable.
He occasionally fixates on new or overwhelming environments. This is improving but will need continued work.
He is not a “set it and forget it” dog. Larry needs structure, accountability, and someone who won’t let things slide.
THE GOOD: WHY HE’S WORTH IT
Despite all of the above, Larry is a phenomenal dog in the right hands.
He is absolutely hilarious. His zoomies alone are worth the commitment. Pure gold. His giant head trying to keep up with his fast little butt? Hysterical.
He is affectionate in his own intense way—he loves his people deeply.
He is very intelligent and food motivated, loves to play and fun to train.
He loves enrichment: frozen peanut butter, Kongs, soft blankets, rolling in the grass.
He settles nicely inside the home when play is structured and kept outside.
He is likely a great candidate for sports like nosework, trick training, or weight pull.
Hello Handsome! I mean c’mon, he’s very adorable.
THE IDEAL HOME
No children, no other dogs
Dog-savvy owner OR someone very open to learning
Structured home with consistent routines
Active lifestyle with mental and physical outlets – get out and play with him!
Someone interested in continued training or even sport work
Not looking for a pet to only “chill on the couch all day”—but rather a partner to work with and grow alongside. He does love downtime, snuggling and hanging on the couch too.
SUPPORT
I will provide guidance, training info, and support to help you succeed with a free private lesson. Larry is currently in foster care and continuing to improve. He was once unadoptable—and now he’s ready for the right person to keep building on the work that’s been done. Attending group classes, private training, or working with balanced trainers is highly recommended.
If you’re serious, ready to work, and willing to commit, he’ll meet you halfway.
Contact the rescue and fill out an application to be connected for more details. Training support and transparency will be provided.
